With its bright colors and strong flavors, Mexican food is one of the world’s top five cuisines, along with French, Indian, Chinese and Italian cuisines.
When we think of Mexican food, we will first think of corn. There are many food made of corn here. For Mexicans, corn is just like rice and noodles in China, so Mexico is also called the country of corn. Mexico is also the hottest country in the world, with hundreds of red, yellow, and cyan peppers.
The Trayoda
This is an iconic street food from the Mexican state of Oaxaca. It is sometimes called Mexican pizza.
Authentic tlayudas consist of a large flat crispy tortilla topped with deep-fried black beans cooked in asiento or lard. On top of the black beans is a layer of Oaxaca cheese or quesillo, which can also be added with chopped cabbage, tomatoes, avocado and a variety of meats. You can even choose to add guapens or grasshoppers, a specialty of Oaxaca. Finish it off with a special salsa.

Taco, also known as taco, is the quintessential Mexican food, beloved by Mexicans for its simplicity. Fill a tortilla with meat and vegetables, roll up the tortilla with salsa, guacamole, chopped tomato sauce, etc., to your liking, and you have a delicious Taco.

It’s a traditional Mexican dish that uses corn leaves as a rind, corn flour seasoned with chili powder, cumin and garlic powder, and a variety of meats, vegetables and salsa. The rind is then folded, tied with a string and steamed for an hour. Remove from the shell and enjoy with guacamole and sour cream.
Bread spicy and sour vegetables
A typical Mexican snack, a crusty piece of grilled bread is served with Onions and a variety of pickled vegetables, a dash of cheese and peppers.
Mela cake
Slightly thicker than regular tortillas, the mera cake is pan-fried, seasoned with lard, tomatoes, Onions, cheese, and paired with a special chili sauce, making for a tasty meal.
Fruit and flower drink
A versatile drink that straddles the line between pure juice and flavored water, the Mexican drink can be made from any one (or more) of your favorite fruits, or even vegetables such as cucumber, celery, or cooked beets. With almost no sweeteners, it is an all natural and healthy drink.
Mesca
Originally from Mexico, Mesca is the general name for the distilled spirit of tequila. The famous “tequila” is just one of them.
Until about a decade ago, it was a cheap drink, considered a ‘country man’s tequila,’ according to Bon Appetit. However, the Mezcal craze was sparked by a group of young people in Mexico City who tried to improve Mexico’s status by promoting its traditions and clearing the city of its reputation as the capital of drugs and corruption. Today, Mezcal’s unique flavor, artisanal tradition, and reputation for not getting drunk have made it the new trendy drink.
